If you’re planning a road trip in an electric vehicle, you might wonder how to find charging stations along the way. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

The good news is that there are more and more charging stations along major highways and at popular destinations like airports and hotels. However, these stations aren’t always conveniently located—you may have to drive a few miles off the highway or look for one in an out-of-the-way location.

You can find EV charging stations by using the PlugShare app or website. PlugShare helps users locate and review charging stations, so you know if they’re open or accepting payments before you reach them. You can also use this tool to find out which charging station is closest to where you’re going. Another great resource is ChargePoint, which has over 30,000 chargers at over 32,000 locations nationwide. If you don’t want to download any apps or websites on your phone (or if you just prefer not to), then consider bringing along an old phone that doesn’t need a data plan or Wi-Fi connection—just text “EV CHARGING” (without quotes) to EVCHARGING (again without quotes). This will create a list of nearby charging stations.
